Thieves 'continue to target vehicles' PDF Print E-mail

Although they have become harder to steal, vehicles in Britain are still being targeted by criminal gangs, it has been suggested.

President of the UK branch of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) Dr Kenneth German explained that technology such as mobile data terminals and number plate recognition continue to play a key role in enforcement, as cloning, staged accidents, identity theft and fraud become more common.

A British sports retail group has implemented a state-of-the-art system to protect its fleet of trucks from fuel theft.
Sportsdirect.com has fitted its 60 heavy goods vehicles with the TruckProtect anti-siphon device in order to prevent criminals stealing diesel, according to Logistics Manager.

The UK's leading sports retailer Sportsdirect.com is kicking fuel thieves into touch by fitting all its large goods vehicles with the world's top anti-siphon device.
With around 375 stores nationwide receiving deliveries 3 - 4 times a week, the company needed to keep a close eye on its £2½ million plus a year fuel bill.
